The New Zealand Government!
The New Zealand Government is called a democracy this is because New Zealand citizens who are over the age of 18 are eligible to vote for who they want in office as Prime Minister. By voting, New Zealand citizens are able to have a say on who they want in office & who they believe will make the best decisions for our nation. These elections are held every three years to vote for the Political Party's values and ideas you stand with & also the MP you'd like to represent your electorate. There are 120 members in parliament who are the house of representatives, their responsibility is to speak on the various decisions that the Government is making either concerning tax or just human rights overall. House of Representatives are elected by the electorate, but only if your party has over 5% (6 seats) of the seats in parliament which are given to a party if they had been voted over 5% across the entire nation. I personally think the democratic system in New Zeland is exceptional! I believe the democracy system is exceptional because the citizens of our nation are able to have a say on who they’d what to represent our nation.

Second Wave Of Lock Down!
- Second Wave Of Lock Down! -
On the 12 Of August 2020, Auckland had entered level 3 as COVID-19 began to spread to a family in South Auckland, whilst the other regions in New Zealand moved to Level 2 as there were no known cases throughout the rest of New Zealand. As a result of this, all schools were back to online learning which to me personally wasn't abnormal as this was our second wave of COVID-19.
During the lockdown period, I mainly occupied myself by video chatting with one of my friends Jayde. Whilst we were video chatting with each other we were mainly watching TV shows & Animes such as Fairy Tail, Naruto, Mako Mermaids, H20, Jane The Virgin & 13 Reasons Why! Most nights we were up late & talking or watching these TV shows/Animes. Although most of my lockdown was spent video chatting Jayde I also occupied myself with chores & school work.
I wouldn't say this lockdown was any different than the first wave of COVID-19, the only difference was the fact that we had already been through this so it made it a lot easier to understand the situation & cooperate with what Jacinda Adern (Prime Minister) had been saying instead of panicking. Overall this lockdown was a lot easier & better than the first one!

Leadership Qualities!!
In class, we discussed the qualities of a great leader... The person I think holds great leadership qualities & skills is my former teacher in intermediate Mrs. Fonua. I truly think she is the definition of a leader. Mrs. Fonua is Inspiring, Respectful, Responsible & many more. She will strive for the best & help others along the way. She is one of the most kind-hearted & hard-working people I know. She has helped me academically & mentally, she has shown me how to overcome my fears & give my 100% in everything I do. I truly thank her for everything!!

Black Lives Matter Protest
"I don't want to stop peaceful protest any more than I want to stop large funerals and tangihanga & weddings being able to come back, but none of the rules we have are there without a reason, they're there to protect people's health," - Jacinda Adern. I think Jacinda Adern’s statement that she had released on TVNZ1's Breakfast this morning, was her way of understanding all the hurt & frustrations everyone had been going through ever since George Floyd’s death had occurred yet she was worried about the breeches made regarding the Pandemic.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“The breaching of Alert Level 2 rules at the protests should have resulted in prosecution for the organizers.” - Winston Peters. Winston Peters’s statement had been very short yet he did make his point that he thinks the organizers of the protest should be charged with criminal charges, yet he never stated if he was against the whole protest or not.
I understand the reasoning of why people had protested but I do think they did breach the restrictions that were given & they did put a lot of people in harm’s way involving the Pandemic. I think the person or group of people who had planned this protest could have thought more about the situation the whole of New Zealand has just come out of (Lockdown) but I do have an understanding of their emotions regarding the deaths of many African Americans due to racism. I agree with Winston Peters statement, I do think the group or person who had planned this protest should be charged due to the dangers of 100+ gatherings & breeches of the Pandemic.Wednesday, 27 May 2020
Samoan Language Week Activity!
Happy Samoan Language Week!
Today my social-science teacher had given us activity where we assigned to use Prepare, Travel & Gift but also translate these words into Samoan. Here's my paragraph I have written, Hope you enjoy!
My family & I had planned a trip to the beach as a family day out. The beach we were specifically traveling (Malaga) to was a few hours outside of Auckland. We had prepared (Tapena) the food a few hours before we had actually arrived at the beach so we were able to set up the barbeque & cook right away! We had also prepared (Tapena) the night before so we didn’t have to worry about what we were taking to the beach such as, clothes, towels, tents. Etc. The gift (Oso) I personally got out of this whole experience was the memories we all had made as a family, was a big gift to me as I value time with family.
WELCOME BACK TO TERM 2
Today in our online session for social studies, Ms. Robertson had assigned us a task to describe our whole "Lockdown Holiday" experience! So here it is..
My two week lockdown holiday has overall been interesting, I think this whole ‘lockdown holiday’ has been a different experince than usual considering the fact that the whole of New Zealand is on lockdown & is practising social distancing. I am not necessarily enjoying this whole lockdown holiday but I do understand the whole reasoning for this entire lockdown & I do appreaciate what the givernment has done to protect our nation & their effort to try & prevent the coronavirus from spreading.
Adventure Base-Learning
Mat Volleyball
~ Mat Volleyball ~
Last week Friday my class & I had our last A.B.L (Adventure Based-Learning) with Mr. Cunard. The activity we played was "Mat Volleyball" the aim of the game was for two teams to have a mat each & each person in the two teams had to bounce the ball off from the mat over the line & over to the next teams mat. Basically this game is exactly identical to Volleyball the only difference is your not able to touch the ball with your hands but, with the mat your team was given.
Made In Taiwan!
~ Made In Taiwan ~
Made in Taiwan is a documentary dedicated to the people from each Polynesian Island, Oscar & Nathan start their adventure off by travelling from Mahi, New Zealand then they visited Rarotonga,Samoa, Vanuatu & Finally Taiwan. Through out their journey they discover their origins & their DNA results, they also learn more about the Pit people & where the Pita people originate from.
My personal thoughts & opinion on this documentary about Oscar Knightley & Nathan Rarere visited five different countries to discover & get an understanding on where the people of 'Polynesia" really descended from. My personal thoughts on this documentary is honestly all good thoughts & positive feedback! I think that it's awesome that their wanting to go back from generation to generation to discover, where the first people of Polynesia really descended from. I feel as if not many Polynesians get this opportunity to explore & really get to feel where we (Polynesians) supposedly descended from. You really do get to learn more about our cultures & the similarities between us all. I think its really amazing that their wanting to share this with the rest of the Polynesians that are just as curious as themselves, so I really appreciate & love this documentary! I really do recommend this to all the young & old people that have Polynesian decedents!
// ~ // ~ // ~ // ~ // ~ // ~ // ~ // ~ // ~ // ~ //
Today in Social - Science we learned a bit about Immigration, & what it meant to us. Ms. Robertson gave us an activity to complete about Immigration, in this activity we were given words, that related towards Immigration, here's some words I learnt a bit about today! My definition personally of Immigration is a person who moves from one country to a foreign country to permanently stay. The definition of Emigrate is a people moving from a resident country to another country that is not foreign.
